COMMITTIEES

The ESMS committees are the organization’s idea generators and work force. They bring together community members to tackle long- and short-term projects important to East Somerville. Committees are always open to new members and to volunteers who want to help with specific projects.

Design Committee
The visible face of our business district provides the welcome for the diverse resources that it holds. The design committee works to create an inviting commercial district that encourages customers and residents to spend time in East Somerville. The committee’s goals include:

  • improving public spaces
  • increasing presence of art and urban greenery
  • preserving historic buildings
  • promoting storefront improvements
  • creating design guidelines

Promotion Committee
The promotion committee works to reinforce East Somerville’s dynamic nature and positive image to residents, visitors and the community-at-large. Committee activities have included Under the Stars: International Movie Nights, neighborhood networking events at local restaurants and the Colors of the Americas : East Somerville Art Walk. The committee’s goals include:

  • identifying and promoting East Somerville’s unique assets
  • planning special events • producing informational materials
  • working collaboratively with businesses on retail promotions

Economic Support & Development Committee
ESMS recognizes that businesses are the heart and soul of East Somerville’s commercial districts. The Economic Support & Development (ES&D) Committee is committed to seeing these businesses, and the business district, grow and succeed. The committee’s goals include:

  • linking businesses to existing business development resources (in financing, marketing, business planning, etc.)
  • hosting workshops/events for business owners
  • researching and understanding local market dynamics
  • developing a business retention plan
  • creating expansion and recruitment strategies

Organization Committee
Creating added vibrancy in a commercial and community center is a broad task that requires the thoughts, collaboration and contributions of many groups and individuals. The Organization Committee is committed to bringing all resources and interested stakeholders to the table. The committee’s goals include:

  • building a united East Somerville, bringing together stakeholders from across the district and city
  • guiding fundraising and ESMS finances
  • recruiting volunteers
