East Somerville HONK!

For the first time, the beloved HONK! festival expanded out of Davis Square and took up residence in front of the East Somerville library on Broadway. The Pink Puffers, a visiting band from Italy, representing one of the neighborhoods local cultural stripes, joined with local performers to create an energetic afternoon with a message of fun and social change for all of East Somerville to join in.

See photos of face painting, hula hooping, and great music in the HONK! photo album.

Somerville Open Studios

In 2009, East Somerville Main Streets brought an eastern flavor to the annual city-wide Somerville Open Studios, a weekend arts extravanganza where local artists open their studios to the public. A community show brought work by East Somerville artists Christian Waeber, Katherine Moxhet, Vanessa Costa, Ionna Tourkantonis, and Tony Oliveira into one exhibition at 165 Broadway and served as a gateway to the other East Somerville open studio sites.

ArtBeat

In 2008, East Somerville Main Streets participated in the Somerville Arts Council's ArtBeat festival, giving festival-goers the opportunity to learn more about the neighborhood and talk with local artist Tony Oliveira.
