East Somerville is said to have the most “life and blood and soul of any neighborhood” in this area. The area’s boldness was apparent when East Somerville Main Streets turned East Broadway into an public art gallery. The exhibits' goals included bringing together the artists and the people of the community in a unique way by intertwining bold, contemporary works of art with the daily social and commercial life of an evolving, living neighborhood.  "Colors of the Americas : East Somerville Art Walk" was designed to challenge old notions, stimulate new conversations, and bring about new understandings of the East Broadway business district and what makes the area so unique in the Greater Boston area.

Featuring the work of about 20 local artists, ESMS transformed the storefronts and windows of Broadway into a mile-long exhibit to celebrate and reflect the area’s strong ethnic and cultural diversity. As modern and classic art was mixed into the daily life of the residents and businesses, people were able to explore their own identities as well as the connections present in our own community.

The month-long exhibition also worked to draw in new customers, residents, and visitors to enjoy the unique vibrancy of the East Broadway business district. Bringing them to the windows of establishments they may never have noticed before, and drawing hundreds of people to the neighborhood during its exhibition period.
