Now Hiring: Part-Time Program Assistant Position

East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS), an established non-profit that works collaboratively with local businesses, the community, and the city to actively support a vibrant neighborhood by preserving the character and advancing the economic strength of East Somerville, seeks a part time Program Assistant to join our growing and active organization.

Job Description:

Working in close coordination with the Executive Director (ED), the Program Assistant will assist with East Somerville programming and public events, such as the new Pick-Up Market, and other ESMS events.

This is an exciting time to work in the vibrant, diverse and collaborative community of East Somerville. The Program Assistant position is a rewarding role that offers the chance to gain skills and experience in non-profit management, communications and outreach, urban planning, and economic development.

A successful candidate will be extremely organized and be able to manage the logistics of multiple events simultaneously. Responsibilities for the Program Assistant include meeting with community partners to work out event details, plan with the staff and board members, entertainment, staff and cleanup. We're looking for someone who will engage our community and bring awareness to our organization

Program Assistant Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Maintaining a working relationship with businesses, non-profits and other organizations

  • Understanding the complex needs of different events, and diverse audiences

  • Delegating event tasks to volunteers, as necessary

  • Coordinating event entertainment, including music, performers, guest speakers, and more if applicable

  • Outreach and promotion of events, including promotional materials, press and event listings

  • Managing day of event logistics, including set-up and break-down, problem solving, and recruitment and oversight of businesses, vendors and volunteers

  • Event evaluation measures

  • Anticipating and planning for possible different scenarios such as weather conditions and keeping up to date with necessary public health and safety requirements. 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present event ideas and plans to partners

  • Leveraging resources to develop relationships with the broader community and like organizations, to expand reach of the organization

  • Oversight of communications, including regular maintenance of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and completing the monthly newsletter

 

 Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School degree, some college preferred

  • Some prior experience in event or project planning and/or management

  • Ability to effectively problem solve in a gracious and professional manner

  • Detail-oriented and responsible

  • Ability to multitask

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent computer & telephone skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Spanish or Portuguese fluency preferred

  • Available weekly on Sundays through June from 8:00 AM – Noon, rain or shine.  Otherwise this is an opportunity for flexible scheduling to support electronic promotion and administrative tasks.

 

Pay rate: Part-time $17/hour

Hours per week: 15-20 hours/week

Pay Frequency: Bi weekly or Twice monthly

Starting Date: June 1st, 2020 or As soon as possible
