EVENT POSTPONED due to COVID-19 crisis

Due to the current health crisis, the City of Somerville has canceled all events through June 2020.
East Somerville Main Streets thanks all the community supporters who have participated in CARNAVAL in the past.  In the interest of the public health we ask that the public continues to practice safe social distancing practices and stay at home. 
 
We look forward to circumstances improve and we will be able to celebrate with you again!

S A M B A NIGHT - J U L Y 3 0 TH 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Featuring Samba dance instruction from SambaViva
Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Afro-Brazilian origin danced to samba music. Today Samba is the most prevalent dance form in Brazil, and reaches the height of its importance during the festival of Carnaval. SambaViva is an internationally recognized dance and music ensemble dedicated to authentically presenting and promoting Brazilian culture. SambaViva dancers embody the spirit of the many genres through an immersive experience of color, movement, and energy.

Featuring 'Froca dance instructions from FroCa Fitness
Experience the latest African and Caribbean moves infused with traditional technique in this high intensity cardio dance workshop!
Set to the hottest hits from across Africa and the Diaspora, come try an exhilarating, inspired dance workout with Sylver Rochelin Randrianantenaina, a professional dancer from Madagascar who has performed with top African musicians worldwide, choreographed African and Caribbean dances across genres, and who has made a name for himself as a prominent dance cardio instructor in Boston.

Featuring salsa dance instruction from Salsa y Control Dance Studio
Salsa is a Latin dance associated with the music genre of the same name same name. Different regions of Latin America and the United States have distinct salsa styles of their own. Salsa y Control is Boston’s premier and one of the most beloved dance companies in the area. They offer top quality and easy to follow instruction to get you on the dance floor in no time. Their class will provide a fun and welcoming environment for everyone of all levels.

Monolo Mairena's Salsa quartet will join us following the instruction - so stick around for an evening of live Salsa music and a chance to practice your new moves! 

Manolo Mairena is a New England based salsa singer and conguero who originally hails from Costa Rica.

Samba Night will feature dance instruction by SambaViva and live music by Julio Santos's Grupo Camarote!

Julio Santos, talented drummer from São Paolo, Brazil, drummer for Banda Camarote and Berklee School of Music graduate will be drumming with his percussion group! The live music will bring home the rhythm and feel of the music you are moving to. It will be like having our own bloco in Brazil! Get ready to dance and rock out to live samba beats!
