Now Hiring: Part-Time Event Coordinator Position!

East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS), an established non-profit that works collaboratively with local businesses, the community and the city to actively support a vibrant neighborhood by preserving the character and advancing the economic strength of East Somerville, seeks a part time Event Coordinator to join our growing and active organization.

Job Description:

Working in close coordination with the Executive Director (ED), the Event Coordinator will oversee event promotion and communication for all East Somerville events including Caranval, Foodie Crawl, Festival Series, Halloween Block Party & Pet Parade, and holiday markets.

This is an exciting time to work in the vibrant, diverse and collaborative community of East Somerville and the coordinator position is a rewarding role that offers the chance to gain skills and experience in non-profit management, communications and outreach, urban planning, and economic development.

A successful candidate will be extremely organized and be able to manage the logistics of multiple events simultaneously. Responsibilities for the Event Coordinator include meeting with community partners to work out event details, plan with the staff and board members, entertainment, staff and cleanup. The Event Coordinator also creates event proposals and presents proposals for the organization and our partners. We're looking for someone who will engage our community and bring awareness to our organization.

 

Event Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Maintaining a working relationship with businesses, non-profits and other organizations

  • Understanding the complex needs of different events, and diverse audiences

  • Ability to delegate event tasks to volunteers where necessary

  • Coordinating event entertainment, including music, performers, guest speakers, and more if applicable

  • Outreach and promotion of events, including promotional materials, press and event listings

  • Management of day of event logistics, including set-up and break-down, problem solving, and recruitment and oversight of businesses, vendors and volunteers

  • Event evaluation measures

  • Anticipating and planning for possible different scenarios

  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to present event ideas and plans to partners.

  • Leveraging resources to develop relationships with broader community and like organizations, to expand reach of the organization

  • Oversight of communications through regular maintenance of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and monthly newsletter

 

Event Coordinator Requirements and Qualifications:

​

  • High School degree, some college preferred

  • Some prior experience in event or project planning and/or management

  • Ability to effectively problem solve in a gracious and professional manner

  • Detail-oriented and responsible

  • Ability to multitask

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent computer & telephone skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Available to work occasional weekends and evenings (about twice a month)

  • Spanish and/or Portuguese fluency preferred

Pay rate: Part-time $20/hour

Hours per week: 20

Pay Frequency: Bi weekly 

Starting Date: July 17, 2023
